Hyundai Launches Free Music Campaign
With the creation of entertainment downloading sites like iTunes and BitTorrent, many consumers are becoming accustomed to purchasing audio and video content at a cheaper price online and forgoing trips to the store. According to AdWeek, Hyundai recently took advantage of this consumer trend by launching a new web campaign that incorporates the use of downloaded music.
The car manufacturer has a 20 second TV spot posted on its site and others including ComedyCentral.com, Pandora and Billboard, hoping that the lure of free music will be enough to entice users to come and watch. The campaign begins with a pop-up banner offering free music downloads from alternative punk band The Ataris. To hear the music, users click on the ad to view a Hyundai Elantra commercial and while watching, the music is downloaded to their computer. In addition, they may opt to have the song sent to their cell phones to be used as a ring tone.
