Video Resumes- Friend or Foe?
For some video resumes may be the answer to their prayers. Particularly for the recent college grad who may not have the most impressive background on paper but has the personality and drive to boost themself to the top (eventually). However, with the added features of audio/visual we can't ignore the additional benefit that those who look and sound good on tape have over the rest of us. While some argue its all about how you present yourself and articulate there are still many questions raised over how this will affect the selection process.
HR becoming more interactive is without a doubt a beneficial if not long overdue process to include: recruiting and training practices, hiring communications, and recruiting source success tracking. But some preliminary questions I would pose regarding video resumes would be:
1) Are those companies accepting video resumes ONLY accepting in that format?
2) How are the videos evaluated against one another and against traditional resumes?
3) Are companies offering an outline of speaking points they would like to hear from applicants?
4) What are some industry standards to prevent biased decisions?
While the job seeking practice was bound to grow into a more dynamic medium sooner or later how do we feel now that it actually has?
